Measure usable space
Draw the room with the bed, door swing, window opening, switchboard and air-conditioning location. Measure the space remaining when a wardrobe door or drawer is open. Do not choose a wardrobe only by its frontage: usable depth, installation clearance and the route from the entrance matter as well. Take photographs from opposite corners for the consultation.
Sliding or hinged
Sliding shutters avoid a door swinging into the room, but one part of the wardrobe is covered while another is open. Hinged shutters provide more direct access when there is enough space in front. Compare opening convenience, track cleaning, hardware and replacement access. Review a sample or demonstration rather than deciding from the exterior finish alone.
Plan the internals
Count long-hanging clothes, folded items, accessories and luggage. Locate frequently used items within comfortable reach. Drawers, shelves and hanging rails should reflect the users of the room; two people may need different proportions. Leave room to change shelf heights when practical, and check that handles or shutters do not obstruct adjacent drawers.
Materials and lighting
Ask the proposal to state the board, finish, edge treatment and hardware, along with the applicable warranty. Compare samples in daylight and under the planned lights. Keep lighting and sockets reachable after installation. Before handover, test each drawer and shutter and check alignment, cleaning access and the agreed internal arrangement.
